Legacy of Love

The Shelter Endowment Fund

Benefiting the Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center

Donations of $2,500+ are acknowledged on the Honor Plaque in the shelter.

A Legacy of Love

The Shelter Endowment Fund (“the fund”) is a permanently restricted fund providing critical support for pet programs, equipment and facility needs for the City of Denton Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center (“the shelter”) in perpetuity.  Donations to the fund effectively last forever in that distributions to the shelter are made from investment/interest earnings on the donations.  Your gift is a legacy of love in perpetuity.

History

The fund was initiated in 2016 by DASF donors Dr. Jerry and Shirley Watson in memory of their beloved adopted dog, Kandi.  Their intent was to establish a permanent fund to support Denton shelter pets into the future and to ensure that the shelter remains state-of-the art in terms of quality of pet care and high adoption rate. They generously continue to support DASF and the fund, saving more Denton area pets.

Purpose

The purpose is to build a base of funds capable of generating sufficient revenue to support shelter needs in perpetuity. Specific needs, presented by shelter management may include: adoption and medical programs; equipment; facility improvements or other specialty items not included in the City budget.  These requests must be important to, or improve the welfare of the pets in the shelter.

Fund Management

Oversight of the fund is the responsibility of the Endowment Committee and the DASF Board of Directors.  The committee is comprised of both Board members and non-board member stakeholders.  Investment of the funds is handled by Cultivar Capital, a local investment management firm, based upon the investment policy approved by the DASF Board.  The committee closely monitors investment activity and outcomes.

Distributions

Grants are made to the shelter upon recommendation of the committee and approval of the DASF Board.  Funding for the grants is generated by investment revenue.  It is intended that the principal remains intact in order to continue to produce revenue for future requests. Exceptions can be made for major projects.

DASF accounts for, and makes distributions in a manner consistent with the Texas Uniform Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act.

There are many ways to make a donation to the endowment fund including: cash, appreciated stock, wills & estate planning, IRA beneficiary designations, and more.
