North Texas Giving Day 2015

Dog in kennel at the Denton shelter

Rescuing a lost puppy or saving a litter of stray kittens is as easy as clicking a button. If you can only give once this year, North Texas Giving Day is the day! The donations we receive on North Texas Giving Day through the North Texas Giving Day website will go even further to help Denton animals in need.

If you have a debit or credit card and access to the internet, you can help us make some tails wag. All donations received through NorthTexasGivingDay.org are amplified and are tax deductible. All donations between $25 and $50,000 receive bonus funds.

The treatment and survival of animals in the Denton community is greatly improved due to your generosity as a DASF donor. Your funds are essential as we work to provide support for homeless and neglected pets. Here is how we put your donations to work to save more Denton area animals:

General Public Awareness

Through marketing, events, outreach, and more than 35,000 followers on Facebook, DASF has brought a high level of public awareness to the issues of abandoned pets. With the help of this outreach, more than 4,000 pets were adopted from the shelter in 2014.

Community Outreach

DASF has partnered with local animal welfare organizations to fund spay/neuter programs, underwrite vaccination events, and provide critically needed funding for other initiatives. Since May 2015 alone, 107 pets have been vaccinated for rabies and 148 pets have been spayed/neutered at free or reduced prices. Through these efforts, countless pets, owners, and the public are protected.

The foundation has also helped individuals in pet emergency medical situations.  DASF makes pet food gift certificates available for owners in an emergency and underwrites pet food drives. We are excited about one of our newest partnerships with SPAN for their Senior Paws program, which provides pet food and supplies to elderly clients in need.

Linda McNatt Animal Care & Adoption Center

DASF initiated a public/private partnership with the City of Denton and was the major advocate for building a new shelter to replace the outdated 30-year old facility. We raised over $2.2 million to help in the construction of the $6.0 million facility.  The new state-of-the-art shelter opened in January 2015 and has significantly increased the number of pets that are able to find new homes.

Shelter Support

We generate awareness of abandoned animals in the shelter and contribute significant funds toward adoption and medical programs. With this support, many animals are adopted at a fraction of the cost for new owners, enabling hundreds more pets to be saved each year.

Public Education

A special program designed by DASF in cooperation with DISD has been presented by volunteers to over 1,400 elementary school children. Through hands-on learning opportunities using puppets and coloring books, information is provided about how to safely approach animals and how to be a good pet guardian.

Recruit Volunteers and Donors

More than 750 volunteers have given their time and talents to DASF, and generous donors have supported our mission to save more Denton area animals.
