FDA Testing for Salmonella in Pet Food

The FDA’s Center for Veterinary Medicine is concerned about pet food containing Salmonella which would be poisonous to pets and to people handling the food. Officials are testing samples of both dry and raw pet food (not canned food), pet treats and supplements throughout the country. Young and elderly pets would be significantly endangered according to the October 24, 2011 FDA memo. Testing will continue through September 2012.

Nestle’ Purina has voluntarily recalled a limited number of feline 3.5 lb and 7 lb bags of Purina One Vibrant Maturity 7+ dry food with best buy dates of May2012. Most bags were shipped to the Midwest, California, North Dakota and Kentucky; but in turn some of those bags were subsequently shipped to other states.
